Do Your Own Skype Baby Shower

I had a friend who moved across the country to be closer to family. This year she got pregnant, and I wished she was closer so that I could throw her a baby shower. Then I got the idea to do a "skype baby shower." I live in VA and she lives in WA, so this was the only way I could possibly throw her a shower. I asked her if she was willing to try it, and after she said yes, all the planning started.

I figured if I'm doing a skype baby shower, why not use the internet to send out invites as well! It was a great way (& economical) to get in touch with everyone and really be able to provide all the details of the event and how it would work - since of course none of the people we were inviting had ever heard of this crazy idea before. Evites made things easy!

Skype=perfect way to bring WA to VA without buying a plane ticket. As long as each side has a web cam, you're good. Try to see if your web cam can hook up to your TV & use that to skype. It allows more people to see & enjoy versus everyone crowding around one small screen. Invite people from both areas & they can gather at closest skype site. That way mom-to-be doesn't have to celebrate alone. Whatever works for you! plan your numbers considering the set-up for viewing/talking…

I secretly talked to my friend's husband and he gave me the name of a local cupcake shop that I could call and put in an order and pay ahead of time, and he secretly went and picked them up for me and surprised the mom-to-be once the shower started with a special sweet surprise that she could enjoy on her side of the camera! Some places will deliver too if you don't have someone who can go on a secret pickup mission. This allowed us to bring a little of the party treats to her! :-)

Ask mom-to-be where she's registered. Put info in evite. Suggest to those invited that they order online & get them delivered to the person's house. (some places will gift wrap prior to delivery) Talk to mom-to-be once invites have been sent out, & tell her gifts will be delivered but to NOT open them until the party. If she's not sure if something delivered is a gift or not, try & investigate by communicating w/ those invited. Plan = she'll open them during the shower while skyping
