This is a one of a kind letter made with solid slabs of butternut walnut wood. The tree is from my family property here in SW Washington State and is over 150 years old. It fell over in a storm in 2010, and I have been making art from it ever since! Each piece of wood is very unique, with interesting wood grain and knots throughout. The process to make the letters starts with me drawing them onto the wood slabs with pencil. I then take them to the bandsaw and cut each one out (and breaking lots of blades in the process, ugh!). After they are cut out, I sand them with a belt sander and an orbital sander. Due to all the curves, it is very difficult to get into all the small areas.
