Se ha especulado con la posibilidad de que los personajes fueran Goya y la Duquesa de Alba, pues la mujer lleva el mismo atuendo que ella en el retrato que Goya le hizo vestida de maja y es parecida a la mujer de los álbumes de Sanlúcar y Madrid./ The speculations say that they could be Goya and the Duchess of Alba judging by the maja's outfit, the same that wears the Duchess in the portrait made by Goya.

In the last quarter of the 18th century in Spain there was a fashion for the wealthy that consisted in imitate the style of dress of the “majos”, gypsies that lived in Madrid. There aren’t any extant polonaises that have that style, but I like the polonaise and the “maja” style (you can see an example in the photo), and I decided I wanted to use the two for my project.
