Dec 24, 2024 - Unofficial free time project - I wanted to take the famous Baneblade superheavy tank from Warhammer 40,000 and give it a visual makeover. The official, common variant of the tank is designed in a way that combines World War 1 and Interwar period aesthetics with gothic detailing like arched windows. For my version, I wanted something that evokes Cold War style visual design, taking influences from 60's-80's NATO and Warsaw pact vehicles, everything from the T-55 to the Abrams. I kept the basic shape of it, of course. I also wanted to make the scale instantly apparent, which is why I added a plenty of ladders and railings and also replaced the wide single-track treads with regular-sized but doubled ones, like on some WW2 superheavy tank projects. All the optics, periscopes and viewports were done with modern-style design, though I made sure to keep the IR lamps big and obvious. The hull is relatively modular, the side turrets and sponsons can be taken off seamlessly, as well as the front gun mount. I could've done the tracks the "proper" 3D way, but decided to go with the game-style transparent texture setup because I suppose I just have some perverse fascination with that technique.
