Sticotti Bench. The Sticotti V Bench and other works of Argentinean architect-carpenter Alejandro Sticotti have a modernist foundation: He takes the constructive and rational influences of the Bauhaus and Scandinavian modern, adds American Shaker and 1950s design elements, and merges them with the materials and sensibility of his native culture.
We own one of these. Great looking piece, but it does have a few drawbacks. One, if you weigh more than 100 lbs, your butt will hurt after a while sitting on the chairs. I reupholstered ours with 1" foam and some Danish charcoal wool. Not quite as sleek looking, but so much better to sit on. Secondly, the chairs are back heavy, so they want to tip over when you scoot back away from the table. Worthwhile tradeoffs though for such a beautifully simple piece.
