Nineveh was an ancient Assyrian city of Upper Mesopotamia, located on the outskirts of Mosul in modern-day northern Iraq. It is on the eastern bank of the Tigris River, and was the capital of the Neo-Assyrian Empire. It was the largest city in the world for some fifty years until the year 612 BC when, after a bitter period of civil war in Assyria itself, it was sacked by a coalition of its former subject peoples.

This is a representation of an Achaemenian Persian Immortal wearing the Anatolian style armor. Persian Immortals used many different styles of weapons and Shields. In this case, we see the small round hoplon style shield, made of wood lamenant, covered in fabric, the Immortal is using a Sagaris battle axe and wearing the famous tiara Scythian style headress. This particular Persian Immortal is representative of those who fought in the Persians Wars of King Darius and King Xerxes.
