Comienza en el piloro y termina en la valvula leocecal, por lo que se une a la primera parte del instestino grueso.Mide 6 a 7 metros de longitud. SEe suelen diferenciar 3 partes:EL DUODENO, YEYUNO Y EL ILEON. En el intestino delgado se complementa la digestión de proteínas, ilipidos e hidratos de carbonos y acidos nucleicos, mediante la secreción pancreática y de bilis y también tiene lugar la absorción de los nutrientes y micronutrientes.
