Peshawar is the capital of the Khyber Paktunkhwa province. It is in a valley near the eastern edge of the Khyber Pass, which connects Afghanistan and Pakistan. Its history goes back to 500 BCE, and is the oldest city in Pakistan. Millions of Afghan refugees fleeing war have passed through Peshawar.
