Wm. L. Smedley/Drum Major, 5th Regt/PRVC. Smedley enlisted as a private in Company K. in June 1861 and later transferred to the 191st Pennsylvania Infantry in June 1864. At Gettysburg, the 5th Reserves were in Colonel J.W. Fisher's Brigade of Crawford's Division, III Corps and came to the support of Rice's (Vincent's) Brigade fighting furiously on Little Round Top.
