U2's "Mothers of the Disappeared" (1987) was inspired by Bono's travels to El Salvador in the 1980s. This version was performed at a concert in Chile in 1998 with the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo, and the performance was credited with inspiriting protests against former president Pinochet who was arrested later that year.
