His most popular developments were the electrical starting motor and leaded gasoline. Kettering was also responsible for the invention of refrigeration, air conditioning systems, coloured paints for mass-produced automobiles, and lightweight two-stroke diesel engines which revolutionized the locomotive and heavy equipment industries.
