Uraeus (rearing cobra) of Senwosret II. 12th Dynasty, Middle Kingdom. Made from gold, lapis lazuli, carnelian and feldspar, this uraeus was discovered in 1920 during work near the Pyramid of Senwosret II. A symbol of royalty, the uraeus was worn at the forehead as part of a headdress or crown.
