"expressive portraits by my 5th graders. We talked about emotions - that all people have them and that it's ok. we talked about the fact that some people only want to hear/see the 'good' emotions, and that it's really not realistic. the kids agreed that sometimes we experience not so great emotions, and those make the good ones seem that much better. they used line and color to convey specific feelings, and then wrote a short description or poem to go w/ it.."
Art Enrichment - (Canvas Ptg) Students were given an 8x10 canvas board. We used acrylic paint for the background- their choice of patterns. They collected the first letter of their name- looking for unique print in random magazines. FotoFlexer.com altered our portraits. Mod Podge (gloss) is a fantastic way to glue letters on and seal the final work.
Andy Warhol lesson - trace a photograph for self portrait. The focus is on the design, not the drawing of the portrait in this lesson.
