Cotton gauze upper skirt panel with pintucks & crocheted inserts above Irish crochet skirt. Irish crochet with tambour stitch bridges w/picots, flowers, & open-work "ladders." Bodice has many layers of tulle including complete inner bodice exposed on top to form neckline & collar. Outer bodice w/blue silk & lace trim, lace inserts, & overlays. Zinaida Gippius, a Russian poet, a co-founder of Russian symbolism and one of the most intelligent women of her time. She left Russia in 1917 to avoid execution. Ice blue and smoky lavender Belle Epoque evening gown by Liberty Company Ltd, London & Paris. Circa 1910 to 1919. Was sold in an English department store belonging to the family of Calgary entrepreneur Joseph Stanley. This design is rich with lace, embroidery & multi hued silk voile.
