What is Elhers-Danlos Syndrome? one of the clearest, most concise explanations of Ehlers Danlos I've read. If you know and love someone who has EDS please take a moment and read it...it will help you understand what we experience and why. EDS is a disease that is so unknown, and misunderstood, even among the midical community..more shared knowledge and more awareness will hopefuly help those of us who have it receive better care.
Unlike many heritable connective tissue disorders (HCTD,) there isn’t a genetic test for most types of EDS. There is a test for Vascular type, but it isn’t 100% accurate, and there is a test for Classic, but it’s only about 50% accurate. So the diagnosis for Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome is generally made by the Beighton, Brigton, and sometimes the Villefranches criteria, and by history and family history questioning done by a geneticist.
