A lady playing a lute (1752). Emmanuel Jakob Handmann (Swiss, 1718-1781). Oil on canvas laid down.   In Paris Handmann worked at the studio of Jean Restout II who influenced his work. In 1742 he traveled through France finding employment in a portrait studio partnership with the painter Hörling. In the partnership, Handmann was mainly responsible for painting the heads of the sitters.
