A diamond tiara, worn here by Princess Irene of Greece, has it's roots in Britain. It was originally given by Queen Victoria to her daughter, Vicky; who gave it to her own daughter Sophia, who married into the Greek Royal family. Sophia gave it to her daughter Irene, who married the Duke of Savoy in 1939. Sadly, this tiara was auctioned by Christie's in 1979, and its current whereabouts is unknown.
Have recently read about her story, very sad... Princess Cecilie of Greece and Denmark as a bride, 1931. She was one of the current Duke of Edinburgh's sisters. She married Georg Donatus, Hereditary Grand Duke of Hesse, and had 3 children, but she and her husband and children died in an airplane accident over Belgium en route to London. She was only 26 when she died.
