Beatrix Potter (1866-1943) Celebrated English author and illustrator of children's books and most famous for "The tale of Peter Rabbit", which has been translated into 35 languages and has sold 151 million copies to date. Potter valued her independence and married late in 1901, only for her husband to die shortly after of leukemia. She married again at 47 and never had children. In her later life she worked farming sheep in Cumbria.
