Abandoned Asylum - Manteno State Hospital, Manteno, Illinois - Black and White Photography Print

Manteno State Hospital opened in 1930, and its population peaked in 1954 with just over 8,000 patients. Abandoned since closing in 1985. The writing in this room relays the story of Genevieve Pilarski, whose name's written in the tub on the upper left. She was a former patient who underwent everything from hydrotherapy and a lobotomy, to placement in an experimental research ward.
