Rene Daumal. His novel, Mount Analogue: A Novel of Symbolically Authentic Non-Euclidean Adventures in Mountain Climbing, inspired JODOROWSKY'S film, Holy Mountain. Daumal, who died at 36, refused to affiliate himself with BRETON's surrealism.
Despite the fact that it was not regarded as a good likeness by Jefferson's peers, Mather Brown's 1786 portrait still has the claim to fame as the first known portrait of Jefferson. It was done in London while Jefferson was touring English gardens with John Adams. It happens to be one of my favourite portraits of Jefferson.~
