Tímpano con Virgen Theotokos - Puerta del Obispo, Catedral de Zamora
The "Sancta Sanctorum", the private chapel of early Popes at the Lateran Palace (Rome). In early Middle Ages, the image of Christ, called "achiropita" (not made by human hands), was often carried in procession to save Rome from evils. The silver frame was built to protect the relic from wear, but the original icon has been largely replaced due of its deterioration.
