The Airedale Terrier was bred in 19th-century Britain for hunting badgers & otters. Although bred by a group of common working men, the Airedale is sometimes called the "King of Terriers" for its large size & aggressive demeanor. The Airedale's fighting spirit with other dogs & strangers is balanced by its faith in its owner, so that it makes a good messenger, police animal, or sentry. It is suited to urban living and handles cold well but requires a lot of exercise.
