Temple of Bel is an ancient temple located in Palmyra, Syria (The area was occupied in pre-Roman periods), it was built back to the third millennium BCE. From the picture we can tell these Roman columns were monolithic than constructed of separate drums, and some of them were used decoratively although they had no structural purpose, such as the row of pilastrades on the temple's side wall, it gives the appearance of a colonnade; pilastrade was a Roman innovation.
