Anne of Austria (1601-1666) at the age of six in 1607. The pleated ruff at her neck frames her face and made of yards and yards of expensive lace stiffened with starch and held in position by a wire frame attached to the collar of her dress. Born at Benavente Palace in Valladolid, Spain, and baptized Ana María Mauricia, she was the eldest daughter of King Philip III of Spain and his wife Margaret of Austria. Margaret of Austria (1584–1611), of the Habsburg family, became Queen consort of Spain & Portugal by her marriage to King Philip III, of the Habsburg family. Margaret was the daughter of Archduke Charles II of Austria, the son of Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand I & Maria Anna of Bavaria.
