Joe Cocker: The British rock-n-roller, who is best known for his cover of the Beatles song "With a Little Help From My Friends", died on Dec. 22. He was 70. Two of his other hits included "You Are So Beautiful" and "Up Where We Belong," the latter of which was in An Officer and a Gentleman and went on to win both a Grammy and an Academy Award. Cocker died at his home in Colorado after a battle with small cell lung cancer. His publicist said in a statement that the singer was "simply unique."

In 1993 Cocker was nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Male, in 2007 was awarded a bronze Sheffield Legends plaque in his hometown, and in 2008 he received an OBE at Buckingham Palace for services to music. Cocker was ranked number 97 on Rolling Stone's 100 greatest singers list
