François Catroux borrowed the architectural motifs he used on the walls and rug of this sitting room in the Santo Domingo’s New York home — which sits in a building with architecture by celebrated early-20th-century architect Rosario Candela — from the ceiling moldings. In this space, Catroux deployed both furniture actually from Africa and “interpretations of it in the French moderne style,” as well as artworks by Jean Dunand and Fernando Botero.
