The Sibelius Monument is a sculpture dedicated to Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, in a park in Helsinki that also bears his name. Initially criticized for bearing little resemblance to his work (Sibelius didn't produce organ music) it now sits next to a bust of the composer. While the sculpture is intended to be viewed horizontally (looking at the pipes), I found the underside (looking from beneath and towards the sky) more appealing.
Musica Nova Helsinki is a festival of contemporary music. It takes place in Helsinki between February 1st and 12th. Matti Nives talks with the new artistic director André De Ridder in this One Quart magazine interview. Ridder and Nives end up knee deep in the question “what is art?”
