Hidden FODMAP ingredient: fructooligosaccharides (FOS). Some probiotic supplements have FOS added to them, which makes them high in FODMAPs. If you are using a probiotic supplement while on the FODMAP elimination diet trial, check to make sure it does not contain FOS. Neal Glauser, RD
Product: VH soya sauce. Hidden FODMAP ingredient: glucose-fructose (also known as high fructose corn syrup) Comment: Soya sauces are often low FODMAP (allowed on FODMAP elimination diet trial) even if they contain wheat and/or soy as these are present only in small amounts. However it is best to avoid ones that have added glucose-fructose (like product pictured above) as this can raise the FODMAP content. Neal Glauser, RD
Product: Glutino gluten-free corn and rice flakes. Store: FreshCo (Bunting Road, St. Catharines). Some gluten-free cereals are low fodmap (product above), some are high fomap, it all depends on what ingredients are added to the cereal. Note: this product contains 'soy lecithin'. While soy is generally high fodmap, some soy products or ingredients derived from soy are low fodmap (e.g. soy lecithin, soybean oil, tofu, tempeh). Soy can be a confusing item on the low fodmap diet!
