Bernard, young enthusiast Vincent struck up a friendship with Émile Bernard, fifteen years his junior, at Tanguy’s shop in the autumn of 1886. They had met earlier at Cormon’s studio. They worked together from time to time in Bernard’s parents’ garden in Asnières, where there was a small wooden studio.
