The Western Gorilla is Critically Endangered after the Western Lowland subspecies suffered a decline of more than 60% since the 1980s. Hunting & deaths caused by Ebola were the main causes & continue to affect the Gorilla population. The Western Lowland Gorilla makes up most of the current population. The other subspecies Cross River Gorilla was first listed as Critically Endangered in 1996. With less than 200 mature adults remaining & ongoing habitat loss it remains Critically Endangered.
