a glass jar filled with salt sitting on top of a table next to a window
Allison | Science, Art, & Learning Activities for Kids on Instagram: "✨SAVE✨this easy #kidscience activity to try!! Follow @inspired_little_learners for more easy kid science ideas! ❗️Bonus: it uses items you probably already have in your kitchen! 🙌🏼 MATERIALS: - water - oil (vegetable, avocado, olive) - salt - clear glass or jar INSTRUCTIONS: 1️⃣Pour water into a clear glass so it’s about ⅔ of the way full. 2️⃣Add an oil like vegetable or canola oil (you only need a thin layer on top of the water). 3️⃣Slowly sprinkle salt into the glass. 4️⃣Observe! THE SCIENCE: Water and oil don’t mix. The two liquids separate with oil on top because oil has a lower density compared to water. When you add salt to the container, the salt sinks to the bottom taking some of the oil with it. Initiall

To make this you will need:
* Paper towel
* Permanent markers
* A syringe or a dropper 💉

We hope you like it✨ Don’t forget to save this post for later or share it with someone who might like it or need it 💓

a glass bowl filled with colored crayons on top of a table
Mabel’s Playroom on Instagram: "Easy science for kids 🧪 we love trying new, simple experiments and this blew our minds! The science behind this is all down to light refraction! Light travels through air, bounces off an object and then enters our eyes. When we look at the paper before putting it into water, light is travelling through the air and bouncing off the paper, however when the picture is placed into the water, it has to travel through air AND the water! When the light hits different angles of the drawing, it makes it seem like the colour has disappeared. Cool huh? 👏 #sensoryplay #sensorybin #sensoryactivity #easyplayideas #toddlerfun #toddlerplayideas #toddlerplay #busytoddler #playallday #eyfs #earlyyears #preschool #preschooler #preschoolplay #montessori #montessoritoddler #m

Watch the wiggly caterpillars grow huge as they absorb the water! 🐛
Once the kitchen towel has been decorated with felt tips wrap it around a skewer or something similar. Don’t wrap it too tightly as it won’t work as well. Push both ends up on the skewer to make the caterpillar as small as possible before pushing it off the skewer. Lay the caterpillars on the PlayTRAY lid and invite them to squirt them with water using a dropper and watch the caterpillars squirm and grow!
