POSTCARDS (3) SOCIAL CATS IN PARTY DRESSES CHARMING ILLUSTRATIONS
English court mantua, 1740-45 (with alterations in the 1920s) should do the trick. The mantua is of a ribbed silk with silver thread embroidery, couched and worked in satin stitch. Magdalene Giles was possibly the maker with Leconte the decorator. The display of wealth on expansive court gowns was proudly worn for all to see.
