Spain - Castillo de Almansa, Albacete Castle of Almansa is situated at a frontier between several medieval kingdoms and was therefore an important border castle to the SW of Valencia. During the Reconquest this area was also a frontier between Christian kingdoms of Castile and Aragon and the Muslim kingdom of Murcia. Built by the Almohad dynasty in the early12th century quite a few remains of this original building survive in the present structure.
CASTLES OF SPAIN (2) - Peñafiel, Valladolid, Spain Peñafiel Castle is situated in the village of Peñafiel in the Valladolid province in Spain. An older fortress once stood here as it was an important point on the line of defence of the river Duero, for both Christians and Moors, during the 9th and 10th centuries.
