Jan Cox mentions two important sources for the development of his modern vision; Van Gogh and Picasso. He mentions especially ‘Guernica’, the story of a small village who becomes an expression of universal indignation for war atrocities. He will share with Picasso the need to express emotion and reject the aesthetic formal approach of pure abstraction. (Jan Cox, daily journals, Claire Vandamme)
