Presque chaque ouvrage de cartographie historique contient des cartes du Liber Floridus. Le manuscrit est en effet exceptionnellement important pour l’histoire de la cartographie. Les cartes sont du type mappae mundi, leur fonction était avant tout moralisatrice et didactique. La cartographie historique étudie ces cartes dans leur contexte historique. La mappa mundi est souvent une représentation cartographique de l’histoire biblique et factuelle.
