I can tell Giacometti really didn't lift the pencil off the paper much while drawing which I feel is a good technique when drawing the human form, indicating the contours with out putting too much thought. It also helps that the figure is not in a pose that one might normally see, helping explore the different ways the body curves when in a position such as this. The lack in detail also helps the viewer focus more on the form itself instead of the person being drawn.
