Sonny Boy Williamson II | He started his professional musical life as a radio DJ in Helena, Arkansas hosting the favorite King Biscuit Time radio show, which is still on the air to this day! He ended up at Chess Records, possibly the most legendary Blues record label to have ever existed.
Bessie Smith; There were two, Bessie Smith & Louis Armstrong the mother & father of Blues, Jazz & Pop. At one point Bessie was the highest paid Black performer in America. Billie Holiday & Janis Joplin are only two of the artists that acknowledge the influence of The Empress. Joplin would later pay for the headstone that adorns Bessie's final resting place. Empress of The Blues.
