Let me tell you something - YOU DID NOTHING WRONG. This is completely normal puppy development, and every single puppy parent goes through this exact phase.

At 3 months, your puppy was still figuring out their new world, sticking close to you, seeming so well-behaved. Now at 4 months? Their confidence kicked in and they’re like “Wait, I don’t HAVE to listen to you!” 🙄

This is normal brain development, not your failure as a puppy parent.

Here’s what’s actually happening: ✨ Their confidence is growing (which is GOOD!) ✨ They’re testing boundaries (also normal!) ✨ They can focus longer now (10-15 minutes vs 2-3 minutes) ✨ They need mor

Ridge | Dog Psychology & Human Training on Instagram: "Harnesses are for tracking and pulling.

Putting your dog in a harness sets them up to pull, which sets them up to be in front of you on the walk, all of which sends the message they are leading.

MOST DOGS DO NOT WANT TO LEAD. It is stressful and most dogs are not equipped for the job. If your dog is reactive on leash, they likely believe they need to lead and/or that you will not protect them. Not a good feeling for anyone.

Bottom line is the freedom many people give dogs creates anxiety. You think you are doing something good when in actuality it does the opposite - and the most unfortunate part is most people never realize what’s happening.

There is a time for exploring and chasing. It is not on the walk. If you allow this, you

Kim Paciotti Puppy Training Specialist CPDT-KA on Instagram: "If your puppy grabs everything...
You’ve probably said “no” more times than you can count.

But here’s the truth no one tells you:
Saying “no” doesn’t stop the behavior. It just ends the moment.
And usually… your puppy doesn’t even understand why.

Instead, I teach this way 👇
✅ I make the item tempting
✅ I stay calm—no luring, no chasing
✅ I reward not grabbing
✅ The puppy learns to pause, think, and ignore

Why this works:
• It prevents the habit before it forms
• It builds understanding, not just avoidance
• It teaches real-world self-control
This is how you raise a puppy who walks past the towel, ignores the sock, and doesn’t see your clothes as a toy.

No stress. No scolding.

Just a puppy who knows what to do.

Ian Grant | Vermont Dog Trainer on Instagram: "If you don’t provide rules and boundaries for your dog, you’re leaving it up to them to figure out how to live with you.

And if you get a puppy, well good luck to that young brain that’s trying to figure out what the expectations are.

This is why we don’t send 8 year-olds to college."

How To Train Your Dog | Dog Training Tips on Instagram: "It’s easy to get frustrated when your dog seems to ignore you.
You give a cue… nothing.
You call their name… they look the other way.
You say “quiet”… they bark louder. 😤

But here’s the truth:
🐾 Your dog isn’t being stubborn — they’re overwhelmed, confused, or untrained for the situation.

⸻

Here’s what might actually be happening:

❌ Too many distractions — your dog can’t focus.
❌ You haven’t trained the behavior in this environment.
❌ You’re unknowingly rewarding the wrong thing (like barking or ignoring).
❌ Your dog is reacting emotionally — and commands don’t work when emotions take over.

⸻

What Works Instead:

✅ Train calm and focus before asking for obedience
✅ Break behaviors down into easy, winnable reps
✅ Be the calm,

Jill O'Sullivan KPA - CTP | 📍Glasgow on Instagram: "Do you know this life-saving piece of advice for dogs in hot weather??

Heat exhaustion in dogs is no joke. In hot weather, we really do need to take care of exercising our dogs in case we accidentally cause them to overheat.

So many dogs will keep going even when dangerously hot, and the consequences can be tragic.

If you are concerned your dog has overheated, follow this simple rule..

✅️ Get wet, then vet.

If your dog is too hot, get them wet with cold water (not ice). This will allow evaporation to start helping them cool and then get urgent advice from your vet.

✅️ It's absolutely fine to let your dog drink cold water if they want it.
