Our latest art project includes aspects of 3 major styles of art. Realism - art that depicts objects/people in a realistic way. Abstract - art that depicts objects/people in a semi-form creation Non-Objective - art that does not depict any form, just design and expression. This fantastic lesson can be found on TPT HERE. We chose an object to depict using all three art forms. The item was segmented into three columns and each art form was used in the different column. Middle = Realism Left…

Here is just a small selection of the mixed media self portraits produced by last years Year 7 in the Summer Term. The theme was 'Split Personality' and the pupils produced a portrait consisting of four different mediums (acrylic, pencil, fine-liner and collage). They also wrote in the background of two of the sections. The writing in pencil was that students' dislikes, whilst the writing in fine-liner was their loves. Last week I pinned a fabulous optical illusion art idea from We Heart Art. I tried it out with my oldest daughter last weekend (she's in grade 3), and when she achieved great results, I knew it would be perfect. This is a perfect art lesson for the beginning of the year because it uses only a few materials, has simple directions, and turns out to be an impressive work…
