Hannah | Learn to Read ➡️ Read to Learn on Instagram: "GET RID OF /UH/  ➡️If we are teaching letter sounds with the added /UH/, sounding out words in reading gets trickier to BLEND and words get harder to SPELL.   ‼️Letter sounds need to be CLEAR & CONCISE.  🌟A easy sound identification game is pointing to objects and saying “what’s the first sound in ___?”   ^if they are sliding into the habit of adding the /UH/, help them hear it in words you break apart the sounds to! (Ex.  🧠 Yes, we can memorize a limited amount, but eventually kids must know how to sound out words and that includes these words. 

🤔 Ask your child how many sounds are in the word. Talk about which sounds are spelled the way it sounds like they would be spelled.

For example, in the word “said” the S and the D both make their expected sound.

The unusual part is the spelling of the MIDDLE sound which, in this case is spelled with AI. 

🔎 Focus on that middle sound. “Highlight the tricky to make it sticky!”
