SCISSOR KICKS: Start lying on your back with your legs straight up in the air, hands under your lower back for support. Engage your lower abdominal muscles as you lower one leg toward the ground, keeping the other where it is. Quickly alternate which leg is lowered and which is raised, keeping your lower back from arching throughout the exercise. Continue this scissor-kicking motion for 12 to 20 reps (lowering the right, then the left equals one rep).
