a colorful quilt is hanging on the wall

Recently I was able to field test a pattern by Hunter's Design Studio. I was a little slow in getting it together, but here's the completed top. 49 x 63 inches http://huntersdesignstudio.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/HDS.035-FourteenOnPoint-Cover-300dpi.jpg The pattern uses 14 fat quarters and is constructed in sections. It's an easy way to make a quilt that looks difficult. I have a few extra fabrics in my version. I was using fabrics from my stash and a few pieces were not fat quarters…

a wall hanging made up of many different colored pieces of fabric and paper on the wall

On a few of my posts sharing my current on-point scrap quilt, many readers have asked about the final assembly process. Well, I remembered to take a couple photos as I sewed my quilt top together so I can now share the process I use. The first step is to get the layout how you want it. I find a design wall really helps with the next steps. It can make assembly so much easier if you can see what is going on. Here is how I add sashing. For my 8" blocks, I decided to go with a 1" finished…

a quilt is hanging on the wall

This is my latest attempt at turning a rectangle of charm squares into an on point quilt. (OK. This is my third time, and you know what they say about the third time!) This little quilt measures approximately 32 inches square and uses less than two charm packs. Sew 72 charm squares ( or 72 5-inch squares cut from your stash) together into a rectangle. The rectangle needs to be a 1:2 ratio so for this one I chose 6 squares by 12 squares. Cut the rectangle as shown in the photo below. I forgot…

the square is being sewn together on the table

I found this amazing idea for half square triangles by the Missouri Star Quilt Company on Youtube. I thought I would do it to make sure it really works and see how accurate this is...... First take two charm squares. Stack them up, right sides together. Sew a 1/4" all around the outside edge. I started on a side but now realize I should have started in a corner, but it doesn't make that much difference. It will look like this....you can see my little wobble on the left hand corner... Use…

quilts and sewing supplies laid out on a table

Another day, another squares quilt. But there is something comforting about being able to just sit and sew for hours and hours, listening to a good audiobook or podcast, while a quilt comes together before your eyes.
