How do you transfer an orchid from sphagnum moss or bark into full water culture? First, you’ll need to chose the most appropriate time to do the transfer. Repotting an orchid during the wrong time can kill it, even more, changing its potting medium entirely. Second, you’ll need to verify the roots, cleaning out any old potting material. And finally, you’ll need to verify the correct method and water to use for full water culture. Let’s look at those step by step.

Living in Indiana, fall and winter temperatures get less than 55 degrees consistently which would prevent us from being able to anchor orchids or other plants to trees so this will just have to do. 

When choosing a board, choose one that is rot resistant. I used cork bark since it doesn’t rot but it’s also very easy to make holes in. It’s fairly plyable. 

Hang in a spot that will get light, water the moss when it’s almost dry, and you can incorporate liquid orchid  fertilizer in the water when blooms fall off. 

Now we can live our orchid hanging dreams… inside 🌸
