Justyna | HAND EMBROIDERY on Instagram: "I promise I’ll explain but first tell me what is your favorite way to transfer embroidery patterns? 🧵

I often get asked how I transfer my patterns onto fabric. After trying various techniques like using windows and carbon paper, I’ve settled on a method that’s a bit unique to me. Here is how and why:

HOW:
I start by securing the fabric tightly in the hoop. Then, I switch on my small light pad and place the printed pattern on it. Next, I position my hoop on top of the pattern, ensuring the flat side is facing down (just like you can see in the video). Using a heat erasable pen, I trace the pattern onto the fabric. The pattern ends up on the wrong side of the fabric, so I unscrew the hoop and reposition the fabric correctly.

⋒ bess ⋒ hand embroidery on Instagram: "Perfect for those designs that are a little too detailed to transfer by hand! This is one of my favourite ways to print my embroidery pattern directly onto the fabric. I’ve used this method 100s of times and it’s only ever jammed once in my printer! But is super important to make sure that the fabric is trimmed to the exact size of the paper and that there are no loose threads that could catch in the machine! Using my printer, the pattern won’t wash out at the end so be mindful of that if you want to try this method. This quick method of transferring simple lines onto felt only requires tracing paper, a needle with a large shaft, and a marking pen! Because if you’re like me, I am not a “just wing it” kind of person when it comes to stitching letters (or writing). This method (a modern version of what’s called “prick and pounce” - I know, I know…keep it clean, ya’ll!) has been around forever, but this more modern version works great on felt and fabric, too! Let me know - have you ever transferred a design this way?
