Far Side's Gary Larson admitted that one of his most infamous comic strips haunted him and made him want to "crawl into a hole somewhere and die."

The other day I paid a visit to my old friend Stu. Usually, his dog, Silver, is there to greet me when I come through the gate, which includes an attempt at a slobbery kiss and rubbing his dirty paws all over my pants. This time, however, he was much more subdued. Apparently, he had chased one too many females around the neighborhood and had to got get "tutored" like the Far Side dog that's bragging to his friend, Biff. The new, laid-back Silver.

Gary Larson used many different animals as characters throughout the Far Side's run, but his giant squid stuck in readers' minds more than others.
