In 1519, he and his crew set sail from Spain, went down around around South America, then crossed the Pacific Ocean to the Philippines. There, Magellan was seen by the native Filipinos as a threat and was killed. Still, his crew continued across the Indian Ocean, around Africa, and back to Spain.
