four quilted squares are arranged on the floor

I have been a bit absent from blogging for a few days, but trust me when I say I am working diligently on the Burgoyne Surrounded blocks. I seem to have found a rhythm to it, and truly, I am enjoying the process. The trick is to have enough cutting done so that you can get nice scrappy combinations of the three colors - red, blue and background. At first I thought I'd try to have each block use the same red and blue throughout, but it required too much stopping and starting - I'd get almost…

four quilts laid out on top of each other

Hi, all! Well, if you saw my post from Monday, you know that I haven't had much sewing time in the past week! But I have had a little bit of time to haunt Instagram and find some new inspiration for us - so that's what we've got today! Take a look at these beauties... I am SO in love with Wendy's mid-century modern piece - I really want to dig in my solid scraps and see what I can find to make one like it! And aren't these bowls amazing? I couldn't find a pattern or tutorial, but I think I…

This is a great block for the history enthusiast. The name refers to one of the most pivotal battles of the American Revolution. In 1777, the British tried to take control of strategic ground on the Hudson River. The approximately 6,200 soldiers, led by British General John Burgoyne, were surrounded by American troops, who forced them to surrender near Albany, New York, marking a major turning point in the war. In this eponymous block, the British are represented by the large, center…

a red, white and blue quilt on a table

This beauty just came off the frame. It is a Burgoyne Surrounded. it is similar to an Irish Chain as it has a chain going through and connecting the blocks and providing a secondary pattern. Beautiful feathers were quilted in using Glide Cream and then a simple outlining of the red and blue chains in Omni Climbing Rose and Sapphire. Looks pretty !!! Can't beat feathers in a quilt!

an old quilt is hanging on the clothes line in front of some grass and trees

My Tone it Down quilt blocks have become finished quilt #3 for the year and given how busy life has been, it seems amazing that I’ve finished anything at all. I love this quilt for several reasons. First, it has pieces of so many fabrics in it. I love the scrappy look it has, and having so many little bits [...]

an old quilt is displayed on a white background with the words reguequilitergraph com

I'm sure you are all familiar with the free Old Glory Gatherings pattern from Primitive Gatherings. After making mine, you may recall that I made a Christmas version for a small quilt swap with Gayle (The Middle Sister blog). This summer I had been thinking I needed to make one of those to keep. Well, that got the wheels in my head turning, and this is what resulted. This one needs something. I am thinking about brown wool circles behind light ones. Nothing is final on these yet--nothing…

a close up of a quilt on a sewing machine

Burgoyne Surrounded Free pattern at Quilted Twins I've been making a few of these each month from my scrap "chunks" which I define as anything less than a fat quarter. I have a whole milk crate of chunks. I limit myself mostly to those chunks to make these blocks. Sometimes I don't have a low volume or neutral to use so I cut those from yardage but for the most part I stay with any fabrics I find in the scrap chunks. After I make these blocks I have scraps left over cut from the chunks which…
