This is go-to design idea that I enjoy using with 6x6" papers. It's a simple square arrangement made up of four 4" squares. It doesn't get much easier than that! For this particular layout I used four different patterned papers and then added some pink hand-stitched borders along the edges.I have five 2x2" photos arranged into film strips. Since the topic is about filming my first YouTube video, I felt like the film strips were a fun detail to frame the screenshots of me getting frustrated…

One of the most fun experiences of using 6x6" paper pads on full size layouts is the challenge of creating larger designs with smaller pieces. On of my go-to concepts is coming up with a pattern. The pattern on this layout is one I've used many times and it's so easy to customize to different sizes and layout designs. You basically create a square out of strips and alternate the orientation of the strips/squares. For this layout I used five 1" strips to create 5 x 5" squares. Two of the…

a scrapbook page with hearts and photos

One of the greatest things about using 6x6" paper pads is that the pattern of the paper has been shrunken down. This means that you can cut smaller pieces without losing that pattern. You can still get a clear picture and lots of detail in that pattern. For someone like me, who loves creating with smaller pieces, this is a big win!The background for this layout is made up of 1 x 6" vertical strips arranged across the whole layout. This is an easy design for those smaller papers and it can…

a scrapbook page with an image of a young boy

The layout I'm sharing today showcases two interesting ways you can incorporate 6x6" papers onto your layout. I just love playing with these smaller papers on full size layouts! The first super easy way you can use 6x6" papers is to use them as a larger photo mat for square photos. On this layout I've used a 4x4" photo with a full 6x6" sheet as a mat. You gotta love those times when you don't even need a paper trimmer! The second way I used 6x6" papers is a great way to get past the small…

a bunch of cards with different designs on them

Raise your hand if you are completely in awe of Kristie Marcotte and her ability to power through entire 6x6 paper pads...yeah me too! For my SumMore Fun blog post today I decided to embrace that challenge for myself! It wasn't easy and took me three days off and on to finish the paper pad, but I ended up with these 32 cards. I used the My Mind's Eye My Favorite Things 6x6 paper pad. I have had it floating around in my craft room for quite some time. I picked it because it had both masculine…

a scrapbook page with an image of a young boy eating food from a plate

Each year, as my boys turn another year older, I try to put together a page highlighting a favorite photo of them at that age and what they are currently into and/or doing (favorite shows, toys, friends, likes, habits, etc). When I saw Echo Park's new 'This & That, Charming' collection I knew it would be the perfect palette for this page in their yearbooks. The color story from this line is one of my favorites. I love the combo of teal, green, black, yellow and how it's complimented by the…

One of the best ways to approach creating with smaller papers is finding unique ways to use a grouping of smaller pieces together to create a larger design. And, the beauty of smaller papers like 6x6" or 6x8" is that you can cut those papers down into small pieces without losing the design of that patterned paper. For this layout I cut several 1" squares from a variety of patterned papers, slanted them at a 45º angle, and arranged them in a grid.I arranged them with a space in between the…

The layout I'm sharing today showcases one of my go-to design concepts that I like to use with 6x6" papers. It's super easy and can be adapt to work with several different sizes. With this layout there are four 2-1/2 x 2-1/2" photos in the middle along with a row of 2-1/2 x 2-1/2" banner pieces on both the top and bottom edge of those photos. The concept here that I love using so much is arranging a set of photos in a straight row and then using banner pieces in the same size lined up with…

I love creating designs with 4" squares (and photos) and that's a common size I like to turn to when using 6x6" paper pads. The smaller patterns on the 6" papers really helps pack a lot of pattern detail into a 4" square. For the layout I'm sharing today, I used six 4 x 4" squares to create a background to help highlight a 4 x 6" photo. Supplies used - Cardstock: American Crafts; Patterned paper, embellishments: My Mind's Eye; Wave cut file: Sophie Gallo #19023 from the Silhouette Design…
