Scientists at Oxford University say it could lead to the development of a new kind of 'alarm system' for detecting elephant behaviour as a means to catch and deter poachers.

Jacques Matthysen, who photographed the very public display of affection at the Kariega Game Reserve in South Africa, said the elephants locked trunks like humans would hold hands.
