Autumn 1950. Eva Luoma photographed this scene just out of Pawlet Village on the Rupert Road. To the east Route 30 runs across the base of Sargent Hill by Floyd Sheldon’s apple orchard. Woodlawn Mountain, part of the Taconic Range, rises more then 3,000 ft in the background. Pawlet lies in the Mettowee Valley of Western Vermont.

Happy Thanksgiving... This picture reminds me of buying a turkey at the Army commissary for our German landlady, and it wouldn't fit in her little oven or ours either. Her daughter-in-law had to take it home to cook it!

Al Dorne (1904 - 1965) Despite a childhood without much money, but with serious ailments (TB, a heart condition), he did rather well as a young boxer before being floored in his 11th fight (he'd won the first 10!). So he pursued his life-long dream of art. Worked his way up from ad agency gopher to leading illustrator for Liberty, Saturday Evening Post, Life, True, Colliers', Look. Also World War II posters, menu art for the Stork Club, and major ad campaigns

Pinterest I found a few vintage apron-wearing women to celebrate Apple Picking time! Hopefully, we will be able to fit a trip to the orchard in this weekend. Apple picking is one of my favorite autumn activity! Pinterest I think this one is my favorite, so sweet! Pinterest And of course, a bit of baking always follows apples. So many luscious things to make with apples!
